Chewing gum isn’t commonly associated with romance, with most of us just tossing the wrappers aside when we’re done. However, this video proves that love can help use even the most mundane of items in a creative fashion.

Juan first met Sarah outside her locker in high school. She offered him a stick of gum as a gesture of thanks when he helped pick up some books and papers she had dropped. The couple started a relationship, and she got into the habit of offering him gum even at important events such as at their prom.

Unbeknownst to her, Juan saved the gum wrappers and drew sketches showing key moments for them as a couple on the reverse side.
